Class reunion

So, the first 3 days of our vacation was our class reunion. We had a mixer Friday night, dinner dance on Saturday, and a picnic on Sunday. It was great to see old friends and to catch up with one another. You quickly learn, as soon as graduation is over, that the things in high school that seemed so HUGELY important, were really little things and they didn't matter after all. At 43, we're not all about the drama anymore, thank goodness! :)

The Man and I were good friends in high school, but we weren't high school sweethearts. However, we are among a few couples who married people from our class and are still together. December will make 24 years for us. He's my best friend...and for that I am so fortunate.

So, Friday night he stayed with his friend that he hadn't seen in years, and I went back to my mom's to go to bed. He got to my mom's a couple hours after I did and we both fell asleep. Sometime in my sleep, I must have bopped him in the eye with my anniversary ring. His eye was red and he could barely open it when we got up in the morning. I had no clue it was serious, but thankfully, my mother is a nurse, so she insisted we take him to the E.R. Um, yeah...I apparently gave him a corneal abrasion! Poor guy! The doctor told him that he would have to wear a patch for 24 hours and then use drops until he saw the opthomologist on Monday morning. Um, we wanted to LEAVE early Monday morning! The Man told the doctor that he had a class reunion that night and there was no way that he was wearing a patch. The doctor told him that his choice was to wear the patch, or possibly lose his sight. I informed The Man that he WOULD wear the patch, whether he liked it or not and that it would make for a good story at the reunion.

We took The Man to my mom's and he went back to bed. Mom and I went to get his prescription filled, went to Wally World to get sunglasses and some stick on eye patches. The patch they put on his eye was a honkin' round gauze thingamabob and they taped it across his face. No wonder he didn't want to be seen in that patch! He looked incredibly HOT in his suit and tie with his sunglasses (in my opinion.) Michael Corleone eat your heart out! ;)

Here are some random shots from the reunion....

Before the mixer...and before the eye incident

This is Cheryl, one of my dearest friends. We were texting before the reunion lamenting on our cleavage issues. ;)

The Man and me AFTER the eye incident. Notice the tie matches my dress? It's a Jerry Garcia purchased by moi. Purple is a good color for us. :)

I have other pictures from the reunion, but because of privacy issues, I won't post pictures of other people. I've talked about Cheryl on here before, so I know she won't mind me showing off one of my very best friends!

Anyway, I was teased a lot that night about beating the crap out of my husband. It was all in good fun, though. There is a reason my sweet husband refers to me as Grace. ;)

Take me home...down country roads

We just got back last night from our vacation. We started out in our home town for our 25th high school class reunion. Friday night was the mixer at the American Legion. Saturday night was the dinner dance in the Legion social room and Sunday afternoon was the class picnic at Tomlinson Run State Park. Those of us who were able to come had a lot of fun! It was great seeing old friends from high school.

Monday morning, we left for Chincoteague, VA to visit The Man's mom and her dear husband. We spent 5 days with them, then took off for my sister and brother-in-law's house in Southern WV for the 4th of July.

I'll write more about each day soon. I have a mountain of laundry to do, bills to mail, groceries to buy, etc. All of the 'fun' things we have to do to get back into the swing of things after vacation. I have plenty to say, so I'll be back soon!

Our hometown wonder....The World's Largest Teapot. :)

Sweet Summertime

I'm going to be away from the computer for a few days....so I wanted to leave you with a couple of my favorite summertime videos of all time (and no, they don't feature my pretend boyfriend! ACK!) Enjoy and I'll have plenty to say when I return! ;)

"Me" Time

When I'm enjoying 'me' time I....
  • window shop
  • give myself a pedicure
  • visit the library
  • read
  • call loved ones
  • write this blog
  • look at pictures
  • remember...
  • shop, as in spend money on myself :) (groceries do NOT count in my definition of shopping)
  • catch up with friends
  • plan outings
  • eat yummy treats that aren't good for me (esp. chocolate, however, dark chocolate does have antioxidants) ;)
  • go to lunch with friends (or even by myself)
  • bake
  • cook
  • read Disney World websites
What do you do for 'me' time?

Dad

  • Read the phone book where ever The Man and I lived and knew the area better than we did
  • Loved Disney World
  • Had a 'nest' around his chair filled with travel books and maps
  • Was always home for dinner
  • Was a fabulous Didad (say...'Did Dad') to The Boy
  • Had a very dry sense of humor
  • Was a very fair principal...didn't like to hear about a student's past mistakes
  • Put family first
  • Loved to travel
  • Was a man of very few words
  • Left this earth way too soon
  • Is missed more than he'll ever know

Happy Father's Day

The Boy came home on Friday night to spend the better part of the weekend with his dad. The best part about it? The Man didn't realize it was Father's Day weekend....so that was even better.

The guys took off yesterday to play golf with our brother in law and nephew. They left around 9am and got home around 7pm. They hit the driving range twice, once before playing a round of golf and once afterward. They also went to lunch....just good old male bonding.

The Boy got up bright and early this morning, handed his dad a card, gave him a hug and headed for the shower. When I read the card, I immediately started crying. I was crying because of the sentiment in the card, because he's growing into quite the young man, and because I'm an emotional mess. :)

If you are fortunate enough to still have your dad, give him a huge hug.

To ALL of the dads in my life....Happy Father's Day!

xoxo

Just Push Play...I mean SEND

So, as you all know, I have a pretend boyfriend. Anyway, he and his band, AEROSMITH are coming to the Chicago area in August. When I found this out, I emailed The Man at work and let him know that my pretend boyfriend was coming to town. He called me and chuckled, "So, you're a little starstruck, eh?" UM.....a little bit! So, then he dropped the bomb...he had no interest in seeing them again, so I should find someone to go with me. THE NERVE! That's ok, though, because I then emailed my sister-in-law Lori and she said she'd love to go. Woo Hoo! I'm sure he's just jealous of Steven...or something. ;)

So, at precisely 10am CDT, I signed onto Ticketmaster and started to buy the tickets. I had like 1 minute and 30 seconds to enter all of my information onto the screen before I lost the tickets. I was shaking like a leaf and had to literally tell myself to CALM DOWN. After what seemed like an eternity, that little circle thingamabob stopped and up popped my tickets! Holy cow! Our seats are so much better than they were a few years ago when we saw Aersomith at the United Center. We had last row seats and I was sitting next to a boozer who left his seat and climbed over me every 2 seconds so that he could buy himself a cocktail. (We're inside the pavilion so it doesn't matter if it's raining or not, we'll be dry and rockin' out!)

Time to dust off my dancin' shoes!
